PP Mike Fletcher is our Treasurer
The club members all serve on one of our five committees - David Thomas is chairman of Club Service Committee which is the 'engine room' of the club. In addition, we have the following four committees:
Peter Lobb is our Chairman of International Committee.
The committee aims to include District suggestions of continued emphasis on Water & Sanitation, Health & Hunger and Literacy.
Some of these will be achieved by supporting, amongst others: 1) School Aid 4 Zambia – Literacy in a box (District initiative) 2) Wateraid 3) Shelterbox – continued support
We also plan to support Sightsavers. We would like to support the NZ Christchurch Earthquake Disaster fund District 9970 and plan asking Council for a donation in July.
Ray Hood is our Chairman of Foundation Committee
The Committee through its Chairman wishes to emphasise the continued efforts of Rotary in the programme to eradicate Polio worldwide. To date Rotarians have contributed over £950 million to this project. Polio is endemic in 4 countries; Afghanistan, Pakistan, India & Nigeria. There is now a good chance, with funded immunisationprogrammes, that this tenacious virus can be eliminated.
Malcolm Green is chairman of our Community
Service Committee
The Committee has proposed that the following events would form part of the programme, which would have an increased emphasis on Service rather than Fund-raising:
a) Local Disadvantaged Event b) Coffee and Carol Concert – December c) Stroke Awareness Day – March
Mike Blackledge is our Vocational and Youth Committee Chairman.
The committee's planned projects for the year are:
Youth
Speaks - a competition to be held in November with local schools. The hope
is that winning teams from our area can compete further at District level
at Dallam School.
Technology Tournament - hosting in April this very popular event for the
Area with nine schools
having three teams each of varying ages competing at differing levels
of difficulty for worthwhile prizes and trophies.
Booth's Trolley Dash - We shall again organise the Christmas
Trolley Dash at Booth's in Windermere which normally raises around £1200
to help support financially the above projects.
Vocational Trips - It is hoped to arrange trips of vocational
interest to members at various times during the year.
