LARGER CROWDS THAN EVER AT WINDERMERE AIRSHOW 2008
Sky high numbers enjoyed the 8th Windermere Airshow in glorious weather at the lakeside in Bowness. Our President Rob McGraw was over the moon about it saying “it is thanks to local businesses and the Councils that we can stage the show at all and the huge number of spectators defying the economic downturn was a wonderful outcome”.
The show was packed with more flights and ground events than ever before. The two top displays were from the Falcons and the Yakovlevs Display Team. Their four Russian built planes fly as close as 7 feet apart in stunning aerobatic displays. The jump by the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team from a Hercules at 10,000 feet was achieved with pin point accuracy into the display arena in Bowness. Families were treated to displays from a Hawk, Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota, Jet Provost and by amazing stunts from the Chinook helicopter. The Chinook and a Sea King Search and Rescue Helicopter were also on the ground for public viewing together with a Red Arrows Hawk.
Families enjoyed bands, train rides, falconry, flight simulators, climbing walls plus lots of other children’s entertainment and skirmishes with musket and cannon from a civil war regiment.
The public were generous in support of Rotary’s main beneficiaries,
the Great North Air Ambulance, which landed for the Show and The Alzheimer’s
Society.
Clive Langley, Our PR Officer said “It all thrilled the huge crowd
of spectators despite being told that a successful Airshow needs the Red
Arrows, which has been proved utterly wrong. Adding that “we hope though
to be successful in bidding for their return in 2009 and as always we do
need a major sponsor”. We are very grateful to Lakeland Ltd for filling
that role this year.
Around 20 charities were on site raising their own funds.

All in all, a wonderful weekend with fabulous weather to mnatch the entertainment and excitement.
We do hope that all of you who were there had a great time and we look forward to letting you know about our intentions for next year.
Thank you very much for coming to support us,
we look forward to seeing you
