This Committee is dedicated to supporting
some of the Foundation's programmes, both humanitarian and educational. As
Rotary's own charity it is instrumental in many varied activities both at
home and overseas.
During the coming year we shall be involved in:
A Matching Grant project
in Sri Lanka where we have provided substantial funds to be matched
by The Rotary Foundation to provide facilities for a decimated village
there. We have also previously raised funds to build houses in another
village. We have now donated over $16,000 to this project called Manacare.

The village of Tellwatta in Sri Lanka was
completely destroyed in the tsunami of 2004. The
Manacare Foundation has already raised funds to build a new Community
Centre with many facilities for teaching and rehabilitation together with
the running costs.
Our donation has provided a brick making machine, seen in use here, playground
equipment, sewing machines and medical equipment. All of these have met a
great need to provide people with work and enjoyment following their great
tragedy.
We are also very grateful to PP John Tiscornia
who has made a substantial contribution from his company, Demel's Sri Lankan
Chutneys. Our partners in this project are the Rotary Club of mid-Columbo
and we appreciate their help and support on the ground there.
We raise funds for our charity in many ways
- through our AIRSHOW, personal giving and our Annual Cruise on Windermere.
Our intention this year is to raise more than the £2000 which we raised
last year.
One of the most enjoyable events we
hold to raise funds for our Foundation is the Annual Foundation Cruise.
More news on this later.
The Committee is also planning our second
major Charity Sponsored Walk which will be held in September 2009. More information
on this will be available later in the year.
